The Museum of Architecture and the City captures San Francisco’s unique geography, neighborhoods, and architecture through the notion of vertical topography. A continuous infrastructural and circulation system winds around six programmatic neighborhoods as a device to experience the museum as a condensed and exaggerated spatial sequence of the city. As architecture embraces rapid technological change and interdisciplinary exchange, the infrastructure exists to support neighborhoods as reprogrammable shells and also to allow for spaces of flux to accomodate temporary installations, programs and events.
